CD Digipack/Album

For part of our A2 coursework, as well as creating a music video, we have been asked to make a 'CD Digipack' as part of a package to go with our music video. For this task the group was split in two, with me and Sam contributing to our own digipack, and Tom and Joe contributing to their own. As such I will only be discussing the digipack that was created by both me and Sam since that was the only one I contributed to.

For both our front and back covers we used Photoshop to manipulate images, add text and add effects.

Front Cover

Our front cover was designed by Sam and drawn by the two of us by hand in Photoshop with various tools including the paintbrush tool, pencil tool and pen tool amongst others. The idea of the cover is to essentially represent the struggles of the people present in the music video by adding subtle features like an old TV and a crooked aerial, as well as broken beer bottles and a baseball bat beside the TV. On the TV there is an image of the three young men from the music video stood side by side.

Here is the design we made for the front cover. As you can see we made reference to several things that were present in the actual music video, for example, the baseball bat which is supposed to be reflective of the one used in the music video by Joe. We also used the beer bottles at the side of the TV and also the exam paper with 'F' marked on it as references to aspects of the music video.

Back Cover

Our back cover consists of a photo taken whilst filming of the three actors in the music video leaning against a wall. We decided to edit the photo and take another hand drawn approach to manipulate the image to show the outlines of each persons features (clothing, skin etc.). We also chose to take out a portion of two of the actors bodies and have the brick wall behind them with only the black outline remaining. We chose to do this to maintain a style throughout as well as making the image more interesting and eye-catching than just a simple photo. Once again we used Photoshop to manipulate this particular image and add things that we thought would look aesthetically pleasing.

Here is the back cover that we have produced. I chose to add an outer glow effect to the text using the 'Blending Options' menu so that the text would stand out and not have any colour issues with the background, potentially making it not visible. We chose to maintain a house style throughout all of our covers and such and decided to include similar features throughout.

Insert Booklet

We chose to use a twelve page booklet so that it was possible for us to include all of the songs that are listed on the back cover of the album. For the pages we chose to use pictures that we had taken of graffiti art that was around the location where we filmed some parts of our music video.
as you can see, all the songs that are present on the back cover of the album are present within the booklet along with the lyrics to those songs. we chose to maintain a similar style throughout all aspects of the CD Digipack/Album so that certain things did not look out of place and they were all related to one another in some way.
